Coordinator of Academic Services
Sharice is the Coordinator of Academic Services for the Gateway to College Program. For over ten years, she has worked in her hometown of Brockton with youth and young adults to assist them with their education and employment goals. Prior to working at Massasoit Community College, she worked at MY TURN, Inc. as a Program and Transition Coordinator for five years. She also worked for the Brockton Area Private Industry Council for five years as an Employment Specialist and Administrative Coordinator.
Sharice graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UMass Dartmouth, and received her Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from Eastern Nazarene College.
Coordinator of Student Services
Balbina is the Coordinator of Student Services in the Gateway to College program. Prior to joining Massasoit Community College, she worked as a Senior Caseworker with Self Help, Inc. and the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in Brockton for 4 years. She also worked as a Case Manager with the Brockton Rise Youth Opportunity Center in Brockton, MA for 5 years. In addition, she has worked as an Outreach Worker for the YMCA and was a Parent Coordinator for the Capeverdian Association and UMASS Boston Peers Project. Balbina has over 10 years’ experience of direct service working with at-risk youth, and is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Capeverdian Creole.
Balbina is an alumna of Massasoit Community College (MCC), graduating the Human Services program. In 2005, she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Springfield College, School of Human Service in Boston, MA. In 2010, she graduated with a Master’s of Science degree focusing in organizational Management and Leadership from Springfield College.
Data Manager/Academic Counselor
Cheryl has been the Data Manager for the Gateway to College program since 2007, and Academic Counselor for Gateway to College students in their graduating semester since 2014. Cheryl has previously worked for the Pasco County School District in Florida as an Instructional Assistant at the elementary level. In addition, Cheryl has several years’ experience in various professional positions including accounts receivable manager, and export coordinator, as well as administrative assistant at North Shore Community College in Danvers, MA. Cheryl received a Bachelor of Arts in Art, and a Master of Education in Student Affairs Counseling, both from Bridgewater State University.
Desirée is the Program Assistant for the Gateway to College Program. Prior to working at Massasoit, she worked in the mental health field at a school for emotionally disturbed and developmentally delayed students. In addition, she served as a mentor at a mental health clinic. While in college, Desirée did various volunteer work with MASSPIRG Students, a statewide student organization that works on various social issues, which included helping students become registered voters during the 2010 Gubernatorial election. Desirée graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in 2011 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology.
