EKG Technician - Jackie Small

Jackie Small was looking for a complete career change. She had worked in education for years but felt drawn to the allied health field. Jackie researched careers in Electrocardiogram (EKG) and found that it posed a great opportunity to help people while working in allied health. She searched for an EKG Technician certificate program that would coincide with her busy schedule and found that Massasoit Community College offered a program close to her work and home. She enrolled and started classes in October of 2016.

Through the EKG Technician certificate program at Massasoit, Jackie found the hands-on instruction to be extremely helpful. Using EKG equipment in class gave her a true perspective of what the job entails and proved to be one of the most important aspects of the program for her. In July of 2017, Jackie started working as a Cardio Vascular Technician at Milford Regional Medical Center. This career opportunity came as a direct result of graduating from the EKG Technician program. While she is presently focused on thriving in her new role, Jackie entertains the idea of a future career in cardio-sonography or electroencephalogram (EEG).

When asked what advice she would give to prospective EKG Technician students, Jackie says: “Do it! It’s a great place to start in the health care field. I learned so much not only from our instructor, Eileen Jones, but also from my classmates. It’s not easy, but if you persevere, you can create options for a whole new career”.
