James W. Blake, president and CEO of HarborOne Bank, and Edward F. Perry, Jr., owner and operator of 95.9 WATD FM, will receive the Presidential Medallion award at Annual Fall Gala
Oct. 20, 2015 – Dr. Charles Wall, president of Massasoit Community College, has announced that two individuals with extensive ties to Massasoit and the community, James W. Blake and Edward F. Perry, Jr., will receive the College’s 2016 honorary degrees. They will first be honored during the Annual Fall Gala on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at The Conference Center at Massasoit with the College’s Presidential Medallion. Selection is based on outstanding support for the College and overall contributions to the community
Mr. Blake has served as the president and CEO of HarborOne Bank since 2013 when HarborOne Credit Union became the largest credit union to convert to a cooperative bank. Mr. Blake joined HarborOne Credit Union in 1993 as its chief operating officer and became its president and CEO in 1994. With 40 years in the banking industry, Mr. Blake also has a long history of community leadership, having served as chairman of the Brockton Hospital Board, the Brockton Housing Partnership, and the MetroSouth Chamber of Commerce.
“Jim is a long-time supporter and friend of Massasoit Community College, and we are pleased to present him with the 2015 Presidential Medallion,” said Dr. Wall. “Our annual Credit for Life event wouldn’t have been possible without his support, and we are grateful for his many years of efforts on behalf of our students.”
Edward F. Perry, Jr. has been the owner and operator of 95.9 WATD FM since its first day of broadcast in 1977. In addition to running WATD, Mr. Perry acts as an engineer and news reporter for the station, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame, into which he was inducted this past September.
“The impact Ed has had on our students has been invaluable,” said Dr. Wall. “He is a dedicated and enthusiastic friend to Massasoit, and has been a close mentor to many of our students. We are delighted to present him with the 2015 Presidential Medallion.”
The Massasoit Community College Annual Fall Gala is the College’s main fundraising event for its United Student Fund, which provides financial assistance to students for educational expenses beyond what traditional financial aid typically covers. Tickets to the Annual Fall Gala are $100 per person, and are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. A social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner, raffles, silent auction, and dancing to live music provided by The Infractions. Reservations are required.
