June 10, 2015 – On Friday, May 29, Massasoit Community College graduated its second-largest class in its 48-year history. Dr. Jane A. Auger, founding director of the Radiologic Technology Program at Massasoit, and Mr. Paul J. Sullivan, vice president and director of marketing for Sullivan Tire Company were the College’s honorary degree recipients for 2015. Dr. Barbara McCarthy, vice president of academic affairs, presided over the ceremony.

Greeting the graduates, Dr. Charles Wall, president of Massasoit Community College, said “Our commencement, graduates, is in the time honored tradition of American college and university commencement ceremonies. But, especially, we do this in full celebration for you, our graduates, your family and friends. This is your commencement.”

“Be compassionate. Practice kindness, and dream big,” added Dr. Wall. “You, class of 2015, embody the motto of Massasoit, ‘Endurance and Faith.’ Go forth and do yourselves, your families, communities, state, nation, and world proud. Engage!”

Graduates also heard remarks from Clantha McCurdy, senior deputy commissioner for access and student financial assistance at the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education; Pamerson O. Ifill, chairman of the Massasoit Community College Board of Trustees; Student Trustee & graduate Jean B. Derenoncourt; and the College’s honorary degree recipients.

“Few of us would be where we are today without the help of others,” Dr. Auger told the graduates. “So take a moment to think about all the help you’ve received in your journey towards this day. Now resolve to thank all of those people.”

In accepting his honorary degree, Mr. Sullivan said, “Learning and taking on new challenges, the want to learn, the want to succeed, the need to know, the drive within you: that is what will set you apart. Inspiration comes from within, and we can all aspire to be better individuals. Now more than ever, each step that we can all take to better ourselves and those around us in need will add up to a marathon of good. The race has been started, but it is not based on speed, but on conviction and courage.”
