Massasoit Community College/Stoughton ESOL Program

The Massasoit/Stoughton ESOL Program is a collaborative partnership between Massasoit Community College, Stoughton Public Library, and the Town of Stoughton, funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE). The program addresses the need for the town of Stoughton, and the surrounding towns adult learners to gain English proficiency. Based on individual student needs, our instructors tailor lessons to maximize opportunities for students to attain their life goals.

Classes are held from September to June, following the Public Schools calendar at Massasoit Community College on the Canton Campus. The 34-week long program offers Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of ESOL. Topics include reading, writing, grammar, American Culture & Civics, numeracy, conversation, pronunciation, and computer labs.

Placements are chosen through a lottery system. Interested students must register to be included in the lottery that is held twice a year: August & December.

All classes and books are offered FREE of charge to students with limited English proficiency! Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

Due to COVID some classes will be hybrid.

ABE Massasoit/Stoughton ESOL Free English Classes

Due to high demand, the Massasoit/Stoughton ESOL program has begun to use a lottery system for a seat in our FREE English classes. The lottery is held twice a year: once in August for the Fall semester, and once in December for the Spring semester.

Registration for a seat in Fall 2022 Semester Lottery will be open from April 1, 2022, to June 30, 2022

Once we receive your registration, you will be contacted to take a placement test. The tests will be given in June & July by appointment only. This DOES NOT mean you have been selected. This is to see what level class would be best for you.

You must take the placement test to be entered into the lottery.

The Lottery will be held in the second week of August. Those who are selected will be contacted via text. If you are not chosen, you will be put on the waiting list. If a seat becomes available, you will be contacted by text or email.

Classes for the Fall Semester will begin on Thursday, September 8, 2022. Classes will be hybrid beginning in September. Our in-person classes will be held at Massasoit Community College at the Canton Campus.
