Stoughton ESOL Program
The Massasoit/Stoughton ESOL Program is a collaborative partnership between Massasoit Community College, Stoughton Public Schools, and the Town of Stoughton, funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE). The program addresses the need for Stoughton area adults to gain English proficiency. Based on individual student needs, our instructors tailor lessons to maximize opportunities for students to attain their life goals.
Classes are held from September to June, following the Stoughton Public Schools calendar. The 34-week long program offers Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of ESOL. Topics include reading, writing, grammar, American Culture & Civics, numeracy, conversation, pronunciation, and computer labs.
Placements are chosen through a lottery system. Interested students must register to be included in the lottery that is held twice a year: August & January.
All classes are offered FREE of charge to students with limited English proficiency!
Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm remotely.
Due to Covid-19 all Massasoit/Stoughton ESOL Spring 2021 courses will be offered remotely.
Massasoit/Stoughton ESOL Free English Classes
Registration Procedure for Massasoit/Stoughton ESOL classes.
Due to high demand, the Massasoit/Stoughton ESOL program has begun to use a lottery system for a seat in our FREE English classes. The lottery is held twice a year: once for the start of the Fall semester, and once for the Spring semester.
The registration for the Spring Lottery is open from January 1, 2021 through January 15, 2021.
Once we receive your registration, you will be contacted to take a placement test. The tests are given online in a Zoom call. This DOES NOT mean you have been selected. This is to see what level class would be best for you.
The drawing for the Lottery will be on January 18, 2021. Those who are selected will be contacted by January 20, 2021. If you are not chosen, you will be put on the waiting list. If a space opens up, you may be called in at a later date.
The classes meet online every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. You must be able to attend the online class each night. You must have access to the Internet and it is best to participate with a computer, laptop or tablet.
