Massasoit Film Society Presents: Smoke Signals
November 18, 2021 from 6:00 pm–8:00 pm
The Massasoit Native American Awareness Collaborative and Massasoit Film Society invite you to a virtual screening of Smoke Signals (1998) on Thursday, November 18, at 6:00 p.m.
In recognition of American Indian Heritage Month, join us for a screening of this loose adaptation of Sherman Alexie’s short stories. On the Coeur d’Alene Reservation, two surrogate brothers—Victor and Thomas—pass their time with basketball and story-telling. An impromptu road trip to Arizona forces the two to reevaluate their relationship with trauma, their families and the past. Deemed culturally and historically significant by the U.S. National Film Registry, it runs 89 minutes and is rated PG-13 for language and themes. Academic and cultural discussion to follow.
The Massasoit Film Society is a diverse, faculty-driven coalition that aims to promote global awareness and multiculturalism in cinema to the greater Massasoit community. We welcome all Massasoit students, faculty, staff and friends.
