VA Approved Program

This 45 hour certificate program is based on industry best practices and is designed for students new to event planning or need additional knowledge to prepare them for a rewarding career in the event industry. Through an interactive hybrid learning environment, students will gain hands on experience and learn how to plan different types of events, source vendors, design a tablescape, establish pricing for your services and so much more.

This course will cover four major areas of event management: Foundations of Event Management, Event Marketing, Event Design & Décor, and lastly Event Production and Leaders.

Certificate of completion

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be awarded a certificate of completion from the college.

About Our Instructor(s)

Karen Salhaney Smizer holds a B.A. in Business from Emmanuel College and an M.A. in Nonprofit Management from Eastern University. She is a recognized and highly creative professional with over 20 years of experience as a nonprofit leader supporting higher education institutions, human service organizations, and faith-based missions.  Her expertise includes special events, fund development, board development, and strategic marketing.  Since 2008, Karen has thoroughly enjoyed sharing her knowledge so that her students can develop critical skills and first-hand industry experience to confidently step out into the event-planning world. In 2015, her students were awarded with the Best Event Table Design from the International Special Events Society of New England.
