About Our Program
Planning fundraising events has always been an important way to secure the financial goals of any nonprofit organization. As a result, social media has now become an essential component of any event and is entwined in the overall marketing and experience. It has also become one of the few ways to interact with supporters, volunteers, sponsors or beneficiaries from a distance.
Whether you are a nonprofit professional, an aspiring event planner, or a passionate volunteer, this course will examine the fundamentals of fundraising management and the tried and true ways to pull all the pieces together to make any size or type of event successful; including developing a solid social media plan. Other topics include working with nonprofit committees, meetings, and income-generating elements of a nonprofit event.
Note: This course is offered online using learning management system (Canvas) and video conference program (Zoom) on scheduled days and times above. Internet and webcam required.

Karen Salhaney Smizer is a recognized and highly creative professional with over 20 years of experience in Event and Marketing Management, Corporate Sponsorships, and Nonprofit Development. Since 2008, Karen has thoroughly enjoyed sharing her knowledge so that her students can develop critical skills and first-hand industry experience to confidently step out into the event-planning world. In 2015, her students were awarded with the Best Event Table Design from the International Special Events Society of New England.
