This spring, Massasoit is hosting its final cohort of students through the Education and Training Fund (ETF) Program. The ETF Program was established for the purpose of offering high-demand workforce training opportunities to Massachusetts residents, who were either unemployed or under-employed.

The program was designed to reduce access barriers for individuals, who historically have had challenges in participating in such training programs. The ETF Program covered the cost of the course and provided students with the necessary materials for their training such as books and uniforms. The program also covered the registration fee for each student’s certification exam. Ultimately, the goal of the program was for participants to either secure employment immediately following completion of their training course, or enroll into and begin attending college.
Since the program’s inception in the spring of 2023, 212 students (representing 23 cohorts) have completed a training course in Microsoft Office Support, Electrocardiogram (EKG), Emergency Medical Services, or Phlebotomy.

Currently, there are 13 students enrolled in EKG and 11 in Phlebotomy. These 24 students recently participated in a two-hour Workforce Readiness workshop (which is a program requirement) and will complete the series in May. These EKG students are scheduled to take their national exam in less than a month while the Phlebotomy students are preparing for their 3-week practicum at Brockton Neighborhood Health Center and various Atrius sites. A final cohort of 10 EKG Tech students are scheduled to start their training on May 11 and will finish their training towards the end of June.
The ETF Program staff are excited for these students and are fully prepared to cheer these last three cohorts through the finish line!
