Introduction to Modern Building Systems & Facilities Management

This introductory course provides students with a practical, real-world understanding of how modern building systems operate and interact within commercial and industrial facilities.
Students will explore the core infrastructure that supports building operations, including HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, building automation systems (BAS), and life safety systems. The course focuses on how these systems work together to maintain safe, comfortable, and functional environments.
Students will also gain exposure to how building systems vary across industries such as life sciences laboratories, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, healthcare environments, and multi-tenant commercial properties.   The course emphasizes system recognition, real-world application, and career exploration, serving as a gateway into facilities management, building engineering, and skilled trades careers.
This course is geared towards new students and career seekers looking to learn about options in the skilled trades and facility management fields.
