Introduction to Modern Building Systems & Facilities Management
This introductory course provides students with a practical, real-world understanding
of how modern building systems operate and interact within commercial and industrial
facilities.
Students will explore the core infrastructure that supports building operations, including
HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, building automation systems (BAS), and life safety
systems. The course focuses on how these systems work together to maintain safe, comfortable,
and functional environments.
Students will also gain exposure to how building systems vary across industries such
as life sciences laboratories, manufacturing facilities, office buildings, healthcare
environments, and multi-tenant commercial properties. The course emphasizes system
recognition, real-world application, and career exploration, serving as a gateway
into facilities management, building engineering, and skilled trades careers.
This course is geared towards new students and career seekers looking to learn about
