Online Learning: Getting Started
Ready to become an online student?
To get started you will need to follow these steps before the first day of the semester. Each of these steps is necessary to successfully access and participate in your online course!

Register for Classes.
Instructions on how to register. (Note: Students register for online and hybrid classes the same way they register for traditional on campus classes.)

Complete the Canvas Student Orientation.
We strongly recommend that students complete the Canvas Student Orientation (either online or on campus) before they begin their first online class. The orientation will prepare you for using Canvas, Massasoit’s learning management system.

Log into Canvas.
You are responsible for beginning your class on time. Follow these steps to access your course:
- Log into the MyMassasoit Portal.
- Click the Canvas button in the top left corner (you will be automatically logged in).
- Click the Courses drop down menu to view your course.
Note: Some courses are not available to students until the first official day of the semester.
Your username for the MyMassasoit Portal can be found on your class schedule, and your password will be your 8-digit birth date. Please contact the Help Desk at email@example.com if you need assistance with logging in.
Check your Massasoit email.
All Massasoit students are given a Massasoit email account (ending in @massasoit.edu). This email account is used for all official communication between students and faculty/staff at the college. Be sure to check this email account often for important information regarding your course. You can access your email account from the MyMassasoit Portal.
Purchase your textbook(s).
You can order your textbook online or go to the Brockton or Canton Bookstore to purchase your textbooks. Many courses use additional software such as MyAccountingLab, ALEKS, Mastering Biology, etc. If your course uses one of these products, it is important you purchase the access code before the course begins. The bookstore will be able to determine if you need an access code in addition to a textbook.
