Pathways Forward: Apprenticeship Program connects students to employer-aligned, earn-and-learn opportunities that combine classroom instruction with paid, on-the-job training. The initiative supports career entry, advancement, and credential attainment across high-demand industries.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Pathways Forward: Apprenticeship Program at the Future of Work Institute is to expand equitable access to high-quality, industry-aligned pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship programs that lead to life-sustaining careers. The Institute partners with employers, educators, and workforce systems to build seamless pathways from classroom learning to on-the-job training that prepare emerging adults, returning citizens, and community learners for long-term economic mobility in high-demand fields.

Program Goals:

  1. Develop Equitable, High-Quality Training Pathways

Create pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship programs that integrate classroom instruction (RTI), hands-on training, and industry-recognized credentials in sectors such as clean energy and skilled trades.

  1. Strengthen Employer Partnerships

Build and sustain employer relationships that support placement, work-based learning, mentorship, and co-design of training models to ensure alignment with current and emerging workforce needs.

  1. Expand Access for Underserved Populations

Provide priority access and tailored support for second chance hires and historically underrepresented groups, ensuring equitable entry into high-demand career pathways. Offer advising, tutoring and career navigation to improve persistence, completion, and job placement outcomes across all apprenticeship pathways.

  1. Support Reentry and Career Advancement

Integrate reentry supports including case management, coaching, and employment services to help returning citizens transition into apprenticeship programs that lead to stable, life-sustaining careers.

  1. Enhance Labor Market Alignment and Responsiveness

Use labor market data and employer feedback to adapt programs, expand into high-growth areas, and ensure participants gain skills that meet regional and statewide workforce demands.

  1. Promote Credential Attainment and Career Mobility

Help learners obtain industry certifications, stackable credentials, and progressive wages that support upward mobility and long-term career growth.
