Methods of Evaluation

Students in the Nursing Program will be evaluated using the following methods:

  • Examinations
  • Observation of technical skills
  • Self-evaluation
  • Written assignments
  • Clinical evaluation

Grading

The course grade consists of two components: theory and clinical practice (clinical/lab/simulation).

  • Clinical Performance: Clinical performance is evaluated periodically, with a written evaluation completed at the end of each rotation. Clinical grades are recorded as Pass/Fail.
  • Theory Grade: The theory grade is calculated only if the student achieves a passing clinical grade. If a clinical failure occurs, the theory grade will not be calculated, and a clinical failure will result in a course grade of F.

The theory grade is determined from the results of written examinations and is computed when the following criteria are met:

  • All required written assignments are completed satisfactorily
  • The student meets the minimum competencies of clinical experience
  • The student has completed all lab and simulation assignments
  • The student successfully passes the semester specialty clinical experience (e.g., psychiatric or pediatric)

Progression

Students in the Nursing Program must meet both academic and clinical requirements to progress through the program. Progression ensures that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors required for safe and effective nursing practice.

General Progression Requirements:

  • A satisfactory quality point average must be maintained in accordance with College policies outlined in the Catalog.
  • A minimum grade of 78% (C+) is required in all nursing courses to continue in the Nurse Education Program.
  • Students must complete courses in the sequence outlined in the Academic Map.
  • Failure to follow the prescribed course sequence will prevent progression to subsequent courses and may place the student at risk of non-completion.
