About the IDEA Program

Is it a good IDEA for you to earn college credit while still in high school?

Individual Dual Enrollment Access (IDEA) allows eligible Massachusetts high school and homeschool students to enroll in college-level courses at Massasoit Community College while still enrolled in high school.

Through IDEA, students can:

  • Earn transferable college credit while in high school
  • Potentially apply college coursework toward high school graduation requirements (with high school approval)
  • Save money on tuition and reduce the overall cost of college
  • Build confidence and demonstrate readiness for college-level work
  • Get a head start on a college degree and reduce time to graduation


IDEA provides an affordable and flexible entry point into college coursework while supporting students as they develop the academic skills needed for long-term academic success.

Deadlines

  • All placement testing must be completed at least 60 days prior to the start of the term.
  • All required documentation must be submitted no later than 30 days prior to the start of the term.

Tuition

IDEA courses are offered at a reduced tuition rate, making college credit more accessible for high school students.

Tuition Rates

$100 per credit, plus any associated fees.

Associated fees may include, but are not limited to:

  • Online course fees
  • Lab or special course fees
  • Textbooks and other course materials


Students may enroll in approved IDEA courses that are:

  • Offered after 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Offered on weekends
  • Offered online

Note: not all online courses are eligible for reduced tuition.

Eligibility

To participate in IDEA, students must generally meet the following criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled in a Massachusetts public, private, or approved homeschool program
  • Be a Massachusetts resident
  • Be recommended by a high school counselor or other school official (for high school students)
  • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and be in good academic standing
  • Have approval from a parent or guardian
  • Place out of Massasoit’s developmental coursework using Multiple Measures

Policies

Students under the age of 16, homeschool students, and other youth learners must comply with applicable College policies.
