How Online Learning Works
Online & Hybrid Classes
Massasoit Community College offers online classes as well as hybrid classes (approximately 50% online). These courses provide a way for you to customize your learning experience to match your educational goals, learning styles and scheduling constraints. Faculty members provide instruction and guidance through a variety of tools available in Massasoit’s learning management system: online discussions, video lectures, quizzes, and assignments. Online courses have equivalent requirements and outcomes as traditional classroom-based courses.
Online classes are asynchronous which means there isn’t a designated time when everyone needs to be online. You are free to complete your coursework on your own schedule as long as you meet the deadlines for submitting assignments and taking exams. Successful online students are organized, self-directed and able to work well independently. We strongly recommend that students complete the Canvas Student Orientation (either online or on campus) before they begin their first online class. Canvas is the learning management system used at Massasoit.
Keep in mind, there is always someone who can help if you get stuck! In addition to your professor and classmates, online tutors are available to assist with academics, advisors are available to offer transfer and career guidance, and the Help Desk can assist you with resolving technical issues.
