BROCKTON, Mass (September 12, 2024) – Massasoit Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Carl Kowalski, Ph.D., by Governor Maura Healey to the College’s Board of Trustees. Dr. Kowalski’s appointment fills the vacancy of Trustee Ann Sullivan, who recently concluded eight years of service to the Board.

Carl Kowalski headshotA graduate of Boston College with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English and a Ph.D. in English from Lehigh University, Dr. Kowalski began a decades-long career at Massasoit as an English professor in 1972. He retired from that position in May 2023, but during his time at Massasoit held many positions, including Director of Grants, Assistant Dean of Continuing Education, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of Institutional Advancement, Vice President of Student Services, and Senior Vice President.

Dr. Kowalski is not a stranger to public service and community involvement. A resident of Whitman, he serves as the Chair of the Whitman Board of Selectmen, having been a member of the Board since 2002. In addition, he is involved with the Whitman-Hanson WILL, an Opioid Prevention Coalition, Brockton Area Transit Authority Advisory Board, Brockton Rotary Club, Whitman-Hanson Regional School Committee, and Selection Committee for the Massachusetts Jewish War Veterans Scholarship Program as vice president.

“Dr. Kowalski cares deeply about serving his community,” said Bill Mitchell, President of Massasoit Community College. “We look forward to welcoming him back to Massasoit and are appreciative of his service in this volunteer role.”

Former Trustee Ann Sullivan is the President and CEO of Metro Equipment Corporation, a company she founded in 1986. During her tenure on the Board, she held the positions of chair and vice chair.

“Ann Sullivan has been a committed member of the Massasoit community and to its students,” said Tom Carroll, Chair of the Massasoit Board of Trustees. “Her years of service and leadership are greatly appreciated.”
