April 27, 2017 – Congratulations to Professor Melissa Winchell, Ed.D., for receiving the Spreading Inclusion Teacher Grant from the Arc of Greater Plymouth.

The award was presented on Wednesday, April 25 by Bobbi Martino, Projects Coordinator at Arc of Greater Plymouth, and a group of individuals served by the Arc.

The grant will provide financial support for a newly revitalized student club on campus, advised by Professor Winchell, who teaches English, and Professor Robin Peery of the Foreign Language Department. The club will promote the inclusion of Massasoit’s new MAICEI (Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative) students by engaging disabled and non-disabled students in collaborative community projects.

Shelby Richards, an Arc client who offered her advice for Massasoit’s new program, said “I really liked being on campus. The coaching and mentoring helped me with my goals. In the beginning, I was nervous walking around campus, [and about] where to go, but then I got help and it made me more comfortable.”
