Massasoit Community College Board of Trustees approved 2024 tenure for faculty members Sarmad Al Aloussi, Professor, Pelin Kadercan, Associate Professor, and Denise Logan, Assistant Professor, as presented and recommended by Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Gail Gibson Sheffield at the April 17 meeting.

Sarmad Al Aloussi

Dr. Al Aloussi was hired as a full-time Associate Professor in the Division of Business and Technology in August 2018.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1992 and Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1998, both from Baghdad University in Iraq. He earned a Doctorate in Philosophy in Computer Information Systems in 2011 from the University of Banking and Finance Science in Amman, Jordan.

Dr. Al Aloussi delivers effective instruction and teaches a range of courses in Computer Science. He advised the Computer Science Club and made presentations to the Boys and Girls Club. He was also a member of the ad hoc faculty group in Business and Technology, which met regularly in 2020-2021 to explore reflective methods in pedagogy and equitable assessment practices.

Dr. Al Aloussi’s collection of published articles and discipline-specific service activities, some of which were co-authored or facilitated over the last few years of his tenure at Massasoit. He has published three peer-reviewed articles in academic journals since 2018. He was a reviewer for the CITISIA 2020 Conference in Sydney, Australia.

Denise Logan

Denis Logan HeadshotDenise Logan was hired as a faculty member for the Respiratory Care program in the Division of Nursing and Allied Health in 2018.

She currently serves as a fulltime faculty member and Clinical Coordinator in the Respiratory Care program. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from Endicott College, a Bachelor’s of Science from Bridgewater State University and an Associate of Science in Respiratory Care from Massasoit Community College. Denise holds licenses as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), and MA Professional teaching license: Biological Sciences. Prior to coming to Massasoit, Denise Logan was employed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and educator in Biological Sciences at Brockton High School.

As a full-time faculty member, Denise teaches and advises respiratory students, develops program curriculum and serves on the Respiratory Care Advisory Board. As a Clinical Coordinator, Denise oversees clinical placement of Respiratory Care students, liaises with clinical sites, coordinates clinical faculty placement and serves as the clinical point of contact for the program. Denise also tutors students, serves on hiring committees and college-wide committees including the Transformation through Renovation initiative.

During the pandemic, Denise developed the N95 fit-testing program for the Division of Nursing and Allied Health. Without her expertise and dedication, no students or faculty members in the division would have been able to attend clinical training.

Pelin Kadercan

Pelin Kadercan HeadshotProfessor Kadercan was hired as a full-time Unit Professional in Fall 2018.

Professor Kadercan holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester from the History Department, a certificate in Women’s Studies, from the same institution and a certificate in Digital Movie Making, Directing, Documentary Filmmaking from the University of Chicago. She was a visiting Scholar at Cornell University and holds a M.A. from Marmara University in European Politics and International Relations. Her B. A. is from Bogazici University in Turkey in Psychology and Educational Studies.

She is proficient in two languages and has authored and co-authored 12 publications. Among her accomplishments is listed her college service where she has served as Chair of the Film Society, member of the Academic Senate and as Co-Chair of the DEI Committee (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion).
