How Online Learning Works

Massasoit Community College offers online classes as well as hybrid classes (approximately 50% online). These courses provide a way for you to customize your learning experience to match your educational goals, learning styles and scheduling constraints.

Online classes are asynchronous which means there isn’t a designated time when everyone needs to be online. You are free to complete your coursework on your own schedule as long as you meet the deadlines for submitting assignments and taking exams.

Successful online students are organized, self-directed and able to work well independently. We strongly recommend that students complete the Canvas Student Orientation (either online or on campus) before they begin their first online class. Canvas is the learning management system used at Massasoit.

Keep in mind, there is always someone who can help if you get stuck! In addition to your professor and classmates, online tutors are available to assist with academics, advisors are available to offer transfer and career guidance, and the Help Desk can assist you with resolving technical issues.

Logging into Canvas

After completing the Canvas Student Orientation, you should log into the MyMassasoit Portal and then click the Canvas button in the top left corner. This will automatically log you into Canvas. Your username for the MyMassasoit Portal can be found on your class schedule. Please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@massasoit.mass.edu if you need assistance with logging in.

System Requirements

Massasoit students are strongly encouraged to have access to a personal computer, especially if you are taking an online course. Please refer to the minimum computer and browser requirements for Canvas below.  In general, we highly recommend updating to the newest version of whatever browser you are using as well as the most up-to-date Flash plug-in.
