Fire Science Technology Program
The Associate in Science Degree in Fire Science from Massasoit is designed to both prepare students for the start of their career in the fire service field as well as provide experienced fire department personnel from local communities with the means to improve their effectiveness in the use of modern fire science techniques.
The curriculum includes courses in emergency services, fire prevention, protection systems and equipment, and general education courses. In addition to firefighting, graduates of this program have the skills and knowledge to find employment in private industry or they may transfer to a four-year college to earn a bachelor’s degree in fire science or public safety.
Students also learn how to apply theoretical knowledge of hydraulic principles to solve water supply problems for fire protection, the duties and responsibilities of Incident Command, as well as how to identify hazardous materials, hazardous properties, and operate successful emergency scene operations.
Courses include: Fundamentals of Fire Prevention, Legal Aspects of Emergency Services, Science of Fire and Combustion, Hazardous Material Incident Response, and Fire Investigation.
