A Brief History of Massasoit

Massasoit Community College opened in September 1966 at the Frolio School in North Abington, with 358 students and 22 faculty. In June 1968, the first graduation was held for 137 students. Before construction began on a campus in Brockton, the College had other locations in West Bridgewater and Duxbury.

Today, Massasoit enrolls more than 10,000 students annually in more than 60 degree, certificate, and continuing education programs. Though a lot has changed in 60 years, Massasoit is still committed to the success of our students and community.

Brockton Campus

Massasoit's Brockton Campus was constructed in two phases: 1972 and 1978. By 1978, Massasoit was enrolling several thousand students across its day and evening programs in the liberal arts, business, healthcare and more.

In 1985, the Blue Hills Technical Institute, itself in existence since 1966, merged with Massasoit to become the Canton Campus. This campus is home to some of Massasoit's more specialized programs.
