Celebrating 60 Years of Massasoit
In 2026, Massasoit will celebrate its diamond anniversary. For 60 years, Massasoit has served Greater Brockton, the South Shore, and beyond through affordable, accessible education options. Throughout the anniversary year, we hope members of our community can join us at one of many celebrations we are planning for students, employees, alumni, and our friends in the community.

Attend a 60th Event
A Brief History of Massasoit
After many years of planning and advocacy, Massasoit Community College opened in September of 1966. The College consisted of 358 students and 22 faculty, with its first classes held in the Frolio School in North Abington,. In June 1968, the first graduation was held for 137 students.
In its early years, the College grew quickly. Before the first phase of Massasoit's Brockton Campus opened in 1972, the College had other locations in West Bridgewater and Duxbury. By 1978, the second phase of the campus had opened and Massasoit was enrolling several thousand students across its day and evening programs in the liberal arts, business, healthcare and more.
In 1985, the Blue Hills Technical Institute, itself in existence since 1966, merged with Massasoit to become the Canton campus. Middleborough Center, an instructional site located in downtown Middleborough in the former Lincoln D. Lynch Elementary School, was opened in 2010.
Today, Massasoit enrolls more than 10,000 students annually in more than 60 degree, certificate, and continuing education programs. Though a lot has changed in 60 years, Massasoit is still committed to the success of our students and community.
