Come to Massasoit to participate in our Education and Training Fund (ETF) initiative for one of our free training programs. Each program will provide you with the skills and experience you need to get your new career started.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic

September 8 – November 15, 2025
172 hours total
Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm and Saturdays 8:30 am – 5:00 pm in person at the Brockton campus.

 

This is an entry-level program for those who wish to pursue a career in Emergency Medical Services up to the Paramedic level. This Massachusetts accredited certificate program is designed to prepare students to function in the field as pre-hospital care providers. The curriculum follows the National Standard Curriculum and meets and/or exceeds the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) requirements.

This comprehensive 172-hour program includes a combination of classroom and hands-on training. Students learn how to manage emergencies in the pre-hospital environment including but not limited to: medical, traumatic, obstetric, psychiatric, pediatric, geriatric, and environmental emergencies.

This training course has selective admissions requirements with specific criteria and deadlines. Students must attend an intake session to complete important documents. Acceptance is based upon successful completion of the student intake process.

Successful completion of this course allows you to sit for State of Massachusetts and National Registry of EMTs Emergency Medical Technician certification exams. You will also receive a certificate of completion from Massasoit Community College

In order to be eligible to be certified as an EMT-Basic in Massachusetts, a person must:

  • Attend all EMT Basic classes (NOTE:  OEMS requires 100% attendance)
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Abstain from the abuse of drugs which impairs professional judgment and/or practice
  • Be free of any physical or mental impairment or disease which could reasonably be expected to impair the ability to be an EMT, or which could reasonably be expected to jeopardize the health and safety of the patient
  • Meet the training requirements applicable to the level of certification
  • Obtain National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) certification by successfully completing a Massachusetts psychomotor (practical) examination and a NREMT cognitive (computer-based) examination
    • Please note: The National Registry administers examinations in English only. The National Registry provides accommodations for English language learners or individuals with limited English proficiency if they have documented disabilities, as required by the ADA. Phlebotomy Technician

September 18, 2025 – January 8, 2026
190 hours total
Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm in person on the Canton campus from September 18 – November 25.
This class will be followed by a 3-week full time practicum from December 1-19.
The final in-person class review session for the National Exam will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.  The National Exam will be administered in-person on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Phlebotomy Technicians are specially trained professional members of the healthcare delivery team whose primary responsibility is to collect blood specimens from patients for diagnostic testing.

This comprehensive 190-hour program consists of 70 classroom hours and a 120-hour practicum to be completed at a local facility. This course is designed to prepare students for an entry-level position in phlebotomy and laboratory support services. Through a combination of theory and laboratory practice students receive instruction in venipuncture, skin puncture, special blood collections, specimen handling, waived laboratory testing, and all regulations governing safety and infection control practices.

The 120-hour clinical field placements will be held as full-time positions following the initial 8 weeks of in-class instruction. The student’s actual work schedule will be determined by the assigned clinical site.

This training course has selective admissions requirements with specific criteria and deadlines. Students must attend an intake session to complete important documents and will be required to submit a completed health form including proof of immunizations and consent to a CORI (criminal offender check). Acceptance is based upon successful completion of the student intake process.

Successful completion of this course allows you to sit for the national phlebotomy technician exam. You will also receive a certificate of completion from Massasoit Community College.

Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technician

October 1 – December 15, 2025
60 hours total
Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 – 9:00 pm in person on the Canton campus.

The healthcare industry is a rapidly growing field with a wide range of opportunities for those looking to make a difference in the lives of others, and the demand for healthcare professionals is increasing. If helping others is your heart’s desire, consider becoming an EKG technician. Becoming an EKG technician can be a great career path if you have a passion for helping others, and an interest in the medical field.

This 60-hour course covers topics and activities including: heart anatomy and physiology, proper lead placement, operating and adjusting EKG monitors, diseases of the heart, and medical terminology. Through a combination of classroom and practical sessions you will gain experience as well as meet licensure eligibility requirements and prepare for the national certification exam.

Successful completion of this course allows you to sit for the national EKG exam. You will also receive a certificate of completion from Massasoit Community College
