During Massachusetts Apprenticeship Week and the 10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week, November 17 – 23, 2024, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) announced $3.2 million in Grants for Registered Apprenticeship Opportunities in Workforce (GROW) to 29 organizations. Funding will be used to train and place 514 apprentices across the state. Among the recipients, Massasoit Community College received $20,000 to develop a Registered Apprenticeship Program in Medium/Heavy-Duty Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology.

With the launch of the Future of Work Institute, Massasoit plans to expand the Diesel Technology program to include training for medium/heavy-duty electric vehicle technicians through the Apprenticeship in Medium/Heavy-Duty EV Technician Training Program. Under the leadership of Dr. Carine Sauvignon, Associate Vice President of the Future of Work Institute, this initiative will provide essential hands-on training for technicians in repairing and operating medium/heavy equipment. This new pathway will equip students with essential skills for diverse employment opportunities in diesel careers and will establish the first registered apprenticeship program at Massasoit Community College.
