Massasoit Community College Free ESOL Program

The Massasoit Community English as a Second Language (ESOL) Program is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The program addresses the needs of adult learners from other countries to gain English proficiency from Beginner to Advanced levels. Based on individual student needs, our instructors tailor lessons to maximize opportunities for students to attain their life goals.

Classes are held from September to May at both the Massasoit Community College’s Brockton and Canton Campuses. The 34-week long program offers Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of ESOL. Topics include reading, writing, grammar, American Culture & Civics, numeracy, conversation, pronunciation, and computer labs.

Placements are chosen through a lottery system. Interested students must register to be included in the lottery that is held August with a second lottery in December if seats are available for the Spring semester.

All classes and material are offered FREE of charge to students with limited English proficiency. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Classes are offered in a hybrid model on the Canton Campus and in-person on the Brockton campus.

ABE Massasoit ESOL Free English Classes

Due to high demand, the Massasoit ESOL program uses a lottery system to select students for available seats in our FREE English classes. The lottery is conducted in August for the Fall semester, and if seats are available for the Spring semester, a second lottery will be conducted in December.

Currently, enrollment for the August lottery is closed.  It will open again in November to gather applicants for the Spring 2026 semester.
