The Cost of Attendance (COA) is an estimate of the total cost of attending Massasoit Community College for one academic year. It includes both direct costs—expenses billed by the college—and estimated indirect costs, which represent other necessary educational expenses.

Types of COA Expenses

  • Direct Costs: Expenses billed directly by the college, such as tuition and fees.

  • Estimated Indirect Costs: Anticipated costs students may incur while attending college, such as books, supplies, living expenses, and transportation. These costs are not billed by the college but are considered when determining financial aid eligibility.

Understanding COA & Financial Aid

COA is not your actual bill. It’s used to determine your maximum eligibility for financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study

The short video below provides a deeper explanation on the COA.

Cost of Attendance 2025-2026

The following estimates represent the direct and indirect costs for both Massachusetts residents and Massachusetts non-residents attending Massasoit Community College both the Fall and Spring semesters.

Actual expenses will vary based on factors such as a student’s housing arrangements and enrollment status, defined as follows:

Enrollment Status and Credit Hours

Enrollment Status# of Credits
Full-Time12 or More Credits per Semester
Three-Quarter Time9-11 Credits per Semester
Half-Time6-8 Credits per Semester
Less Than Half-Time5 or Fewer Credits per Semester

Estimated MA Resident Cost of Attendance by Enrollment Status

Estimated MA Non-Resident Cost of Attendance by Enrollment Status

Students Enrolled in Approved Prison Education Programs

For students who are enrolled in approved Prison Education Programs, the allowable cost components in their COA are limited to:

  • Tuition and fees;

  • Books, course materials, supplies, and equipment; and

  • The cost of obtaining a license, certification, or a first professional credential if enrolled in a program leading to licensure, certification, or credential.

Housing Status Assumptions for Financial Aid

For returning Massasoit students who completed a FAFSA for the 2025-2026 academic year, your housing status remains the same as previously reported.

For new students and those who did not complete a FAFSA for 2025-2026, we have assumed the following:

  1. Dependent students (required to report parent information) are assumed to live with a parent or guardian.

  2. Independent students (not required to report parent information) are assumed to live independently without a parent or guardian.

If these assumptions are incorrect, please complete the ‘Housing Status Update Form’ on the Financial Aid Forms page of the Massasoit website.

Student Health Insurance:

An annual fee of $4,379.00 (subject to change) is required of all students taking 9 credits or more per semester. This fee may be waived if students are covered by a comparable plan. Waivers may be submitted via the student’s MyMassasoit portal on the Student Financial Services card. Health insurance coverage offered to students runs from September 1, 2025 through August 31, 2026.

Loan Fee:

Average loan fee: $50 (subject to change), based on average loan fee paid by borrowers in 24-25 is added to the COA for students that participate in the Direct Loan Program.

Licensure, Certification, or Credentialing Costs

If you are enrolled in a program that leads to a recognized professional license, certification, or first credential required for employment, the cost of obtaining that license or certification may be included in your cost of attendance. This applies only to the first credential needed to enter your field. Costs are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you expect to incur these expenses.

Additional Allowable Costs

The following expenses may be included in your cost of attendance if they apply to your situation:

  • Dependent car expenses (such as childcare) required to attend classes
  • Disability-related expenses
  • Costs related to study-abroad
  • Other program-specific costs not alreasy reflected in the standard budget

Requesting a Budget Adjustment

If you have education-related costs that are not reflected in the standard cost of attendance, you may request a review for a possible budget adjustment. In most cases, a COA adjustment is not necessary unless you are seeking to increase your eligibility for additional need-based aid, such as a Subsidized Direct Loan, or to raise your overall aid cap. Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.

Tuition and Fees are subject to change at any time during an academic year and are determined by the Massasoit Board of Trustees and the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education.
