Financial Aid Course Repeat Policy
Students may receive financial aid to repeat a course they did not pass (grade of F, W, or other non-passing mark), provided they remain otherwise eligible and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.
Once a student earns a passing grade, financial aid may be used to repeat the course one additional time only, regardless of the new grade earned. However, if the student withdraws from the repeated course, that attempt does not count as the one allowed retake.
Examples
Example 1: A student receives a D in BIOL 201 and retakes the course using financial aid. If they earn an A, B, C, D, or F on the second attempt, they cannot receive aid for any further attempts.
Example 2: A student receives an F in MATH 101 and retakes the course, earning a D. The student may receive financial aid to retake the course one more time. After that attempt, regardless of the grade earned, aid is no longer available for future repeats.
Example 3: A student earns a C– in ENGL 101, retakes the course, and withdraws. Since the repeat attempt did not result in a grade, the student remains eligible to receive financial aid to repeat the course one more time.
Students may not receive financial aid to repeat a course in which they earned an Incomplete (I) or for any course that has been accepted as transfer credit from another institution.
Financial aid may be adjusted retroactively if a course is later determined to be ineligible for funding.
Here is a short video that explains the rules for receiving financial aid when repeating a course.
