Groundbreaking Held for New Veterinary Technology Clinical Instruction Facility

June 23, 2016 – On Wednesday morning, June 22, Massasoit Community College held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Veterinary Technology Clinical Instruction Facility, which is being built at the College’s Canton campus. The facility is scheduled to be completed and ready for student use by the fall of 2016.

The new facility will expand hands-on learning options for students in Massasoit’s Veterinary Technology program. The program, which was new for fall of 2015 and is the first of its kind in southeastern Massachusetts, prepares students to excel as veterinary technicians in a variety of animal healthcare fields. Additionally, through a unique partnership, rising juniors at Norfolk County Agricultural High school have the option of enrolling in the Vet Tech program and graduate high school with up to a year of coursework completed, leaving them with only one additional year of the program to complete.

Once finished, the facility will include a clinical instruction area, a surgical suite, a digital radiology room, and an outdoor exercise area for dogs.

“This program will allow Massasoit to provide an exceptional level of training, so that our students will be able to enter the workforce and provide the highest quality of compassionate care for animals,” said Doug Brown, dean of science and mathematics at Massasoit.

Also in attendance at the event were Dr. Charles Wall, president of Massasoit Community College; Nick Palantzas, senior vice president and vice president of Massasoit’s Canton campus;  Suzanne Green and Dr. Tammy Quinn, outgoing and incoming Superintendents of Norfolk County Agricultural High School, respectively; Massasoit Board of Trustees members Bonnie Blackler and Anne Sullivan; and Silvia Coviello, Veterinary Technology Program Coordinator.
