Massasoit Phi Theta Kappa Students Honored at State House Ceremony
April 13, 2017 – On March 30, the Massachusetts Community Colleges Executive Office (MCCEO) hosted a ceremony at the Massachusetts State House honoring 33 of the highest academic achievers of the community college system. Student awardees were presented with medallions and certificates for being named to Phi Theta Kappa’s All-Massachusetts Academic Team. Two of Massasoit’s finest, Bradford Besson and Autumn Silveri, were presented awards for their achievements.
Bradford Besson of Sharon is the President of the Alpha Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. He holds a 4.0 GPA, is enrolled in the Commonwealth Honors Program, works as a sales supervisor in the retail field, and volunteers as a tutor for School On Wheels. Professor Susan Martelli describes him as “an extremely intelligent person who combines his innate abilities with a spirit of generosity and sensitivity that defines a fully realized human being.”
Autumn Silveri of Whitman serves as the Vice President of Service for the Alpha Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. She holds a 3.92 GPA and is pursuing studies in psychology and social sciences in reinforcement of her ultimate goal of helping and supporting LGBT youths. Professor Robert McDonald calls Autumn “one of the finest, most respectful and diligent students [he has] ever instructed.”
