Sept. 18, 2020 – The Massasoit Theatre Company’s show-stopping performances of Beauty and the Beast, which wrapped in March, were recently recognized by the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres (EMACT). Beauty and the Beast was awarded in 17 out of 21 categories of EMACT’s Distinguished Awards and Special Honors program, a competitive, peer-adjudicated awards competition. Beauty and the Beast cast members included Massasoit Community College students and alumni, as well as actors and actresses from the local community.

Due to the pandemic-shortened season this year, EMACT suspended their usual nomination process and Gala, and instead honored the top three to six highest scoring performers and designers in each category with Outstanding Achievement Awards.

EMACT member groups apply for any of their in-season productions (musical or play) to be considered for the Distinguished Awards program. Two different performances of the production are attended by two individuals from a pool of more than 20 trained and knowledgeable theater consultants, who then score the production in a number of categories. Scores are tallied at the end of the season, and the six top-scoring shows in each category receive nominations.
