Massasoit To Host Second Annual Mobile Polar Plunge
Massasoit PD welcomes everyone to enjoy plunging for Special Olympics MA. Hosted by Sergeant Trucchi on Monday, February 17, check-in begins at 10:30 am and the Plunge starts at 11:30 am. There will be a mobile plunge pool (8’x10′ and 4′ deep) set-up in Lot 5 to jump into. You can register as an individual or create a team with friends. Don’t want to plunge? Consider donating to help reach the $7,000 goal. You can sign up or donate on the Massasoit Mobile Plunge event webpage.
Last year, everyone who participated had a fantastic time at the inaugural Massasoit Mobile Polar Plunge! There were 20 plungers with a goal of $5,000. Thanks to the overwhelming support from students, staff, and community members, Massasoit PD was happy to announce they raised $6500. Nathan Fogg, from Massasoit’s Theatre Department, was the Top Individual fundraiser and Massasoit PD was the Top Team fundraiser.
“Last year regional fundraisers like our Polar Plunge raised over a million dollars to support the Special Olympic athletes and events,” said Sergeant Trucchi. “There are about 16,000 special athletes in Massachusetts, these athletes can have a range of physical or intellectual disabilities. I have been involved in supporting the Special Olympics for close to 20 years and for roughly the last 15 years I have carried the Special Olympics Torch as part of the opening ceremonies of the Brockton Regional Summer Games. Community events like our Polar Plunge help fund these Special Olympic programs and events in Massachusetts Communities.”
