Radiologic Technology Academic Policies

Academic

Passing grade for all Radiologic Technology courses is 78%. A student earning a grade less than 78% will receive a grade of “F”. Failure of a Radiologic Technology course necessitates reversion to non-matriculating status since courses are sequential and are offered once per year. Students may reapply to the program, and repeat a failed course, once, on a space-available basis.

Students who fail the same Radiologic Technology course twice, or who fail two Radiologic Technology courses, will not be readmitted to the Radiologic Technology Program.

Students who fail the National Registry Exam (ARRT) ‘the number of retakes that the ARRT is declaring’ and have completed the Radiologic Technology Program and have been awarded a degree, cannot repeat the program again.

Clinical

Clinical Experience courses are sequential and graded on a Pass/Fail basis. A “Pass” grade must be received in each clinical course prior to advancement to the next level. A “Pass” grade is achieved by 100% completion of assigned clinical objectives/competencies as documented by the Clinical Coordinator and Instructor.

Incomplete Grades: Earned Incompletes (I) which are not made-up prior to the beginning of the next course level will necessitate reversion to non-matriculating status. Students must complete the incomplete work and then apply for re-admission to the program on a space-available basis.

Schedule for Clinical Assignments

Students are assigned to Clinical Affiliations for two days a week during the Freshman academic year and three days a week during the Sophomore Year. A 10-week five day a week summer clinical experience is also required. Sophomore students must complete in Clinical Experience III, two alternate shifts and up to five alternate shifts during Clinical Experience IV. An alternate shift is described as an evening/and or week-end clinical practicum and one that provides the students with unique learning experiences.

Sophomore Year – Semester I Monday / Wednesday / Friday (22.5 Hours) Day Shifts – TO ALL CLINICAL SITES 8:00am to 3:30pm
Sophomore Year – Semester II Monday / Wednesday / Friday (22.5 Hours) Day Shifts with evening and weekend shifts – TO ALL CLINICAL SITES 8:00am to 3:30pm or evening from 3:30pm to 10:30pm

NOTE: SOME OF OR CLINICAL SITES MAY START AT 7:30 TO 3PM AND SOME WILL START AT 8:00AM TO 3:30PM

Additional Information

The 4 credit “Biological Principles” course is a prerequisite for Anatomy and Physiology I and II. For additional information see information on “How to Apply” in the General Program Information page

*Classes may be completed prior to applying for the Radiologic Technology Program. It is strongly urged that students complete these prerequisite classes which are used prior to applying in the Rubric that you will find under the Radiologic Technology Link. If a student wishes to take prerequisite courses first, applying into a Liberal Arts Associate Degree Program to do so is a good option.

Priority consideration is given to students who apply with Anatomy and Physiology I&II, English I&II, General Psychology or Principles of Sociology and College Algebra or higher with a grade of “B” or better.

Students contemplating a career in Radiology must be aware that if they have ever been convicted by a court of law, their records will be subject to review by the ARRT examination board. The Radiologic Technology program awards the A.S. Degree upon completion of 26 courses and a minimum of 74 credits.
