New dean, academic programs, and student services part of plan to increase services to community.

BROCKTON, Mass (Dec. 4, 2024) Massasoit Community College is reinvesting in its Middleborough instructional site through the appointment of Karyn Boutin as Dean of Middleborough Center and plans to offer additional courses and student services beginning in the fall of 2025.

With the introduction of free community college in Massachusetts, Massasoit is working to ensure that every student across its 39-town service area and beyond has access to a convenient in-person or online higher education option. Massasoit’s Middleborough Center has the capacity to serve several hundred students in a wide range of academic programs in updated classrooms and labs – including a state-of-the-art paramedic suite.

At the November 25 meeting of the Middleborough Select Board, Interim President Bill Mitchell and Dean Boutin shared their vision to reintroduce more programs and students to Middleborough Center. They emphasized the College’s commitment to partner with the town to better serve the community.

“Middleborough has been an important part of Massasoit’s history for many years,” said Mitchell. “By reinvesting in our Middleborough Center, will continue our work with area students to realize their academic potential and jumpstart new careers that will help the community continue to grow.”

The appointment of Dean Boutin as a cabinet-level leader at Middleborough Center will help fast-track advances and growth.  Dean Boutin brings with her a wealth of institutional knowledge and deep connections in the community. She is tasked with strengthening outreach efforts, determining the best mix of programs and courses to bring to the region while building a comprehensive presence in Middleborough that aligns with the goals and supports the outcomes of the College’s Strategic Plan. Dean Boutin has most recently served as Massasoit’s Dean of Education and Social Services.

“I have been a part of the community for many years, and helped lead the team that created our Middleborough Center,” said Dean Boutin. “I am looking forward to seeing more students walk the halls – and we are eager to provide them with opportunities to change their lives.”

Massasoit’s Middleborough Center has been in the Dr. Lincoln Lynch School leased from Middleborough Public Schools since 2010. While a range of credit and non-credit courses had been offered to nearly 400 students before the pandemic, in recent years Middleborough Center has been the exclusive home of Massasoit’s Paramedic Program.
