NC-Event & Social Instructor
KAREN SALHANEY SMIZER holds a B.A. in Business from Emmanuel College and an M.A. in Nonprofit Management from Eastern University. She is a recognized and highly creative professional with over 20 years of experience as a nonprofit leader supporting higher education institutions, human service organizations, and faith-based missions. Her expertise includes special events, fund development, board development, and strategic marketing. Since 2008, Karen has thoroughly enjoyed sharing her knowledge so that her students can develop critical skills and first-hand industry experience to confidently step out into the event-planning world. In 2015, her students were awarded with the Best Event Table Design from the International Special Events Society of New England.
KATY SPENCER JOHNSON holds a B.A. in English with a minor in Women’s Studies and is a certified social media strategist with the National Institute for Social Media. She is an established digital marketing and communications professional, with a background in social media management, community development, media relations, crisis communications, non-profit development, publishing, and social media content creation. She has worked with Higher Education, not-for-profit, and publishing industries.
