$16.00The republic of Venice employs Othello, aBlack Captain of the Venetian army, to defend its overseas territories againstthe Turks. But for all his military success, Othello remains an outsider in thecity, despite his status. He becomes the object of systemic racism, a victim ofenvy and mistrust. As the Turkish threat gathers and Venetian forces aredespatched to Cyprus, Iago, a junior officer secretly enraged by his lack ofpromotion, exploits Othello’s position and trusting nature, manipulates hisperception and drives the Venetian captain towards a deed that brings about oneof Shakespeare’s most tragic endings.. Performances will run for one weekendfor three shows Sept 29 and 30th at the Buckley Performing ArtsCenter on the Brockton campus of Massasoit Community College .
