Elementary Education
Massasoit’s Associate of Arts Degree in Elementary Education is your first step in pre-service teacher preparation. With supportive and encouraging faculty members, students learn educational philosophy and history, gain skills throughout the liberal arts, and become culturally responsive and effective educational pre-practitioners.
This program is ideal for entry-level college students, instructional paraprofessionals, teaching assistants and aides, and returning or career-change students who wish to attain their short- and long-term higher education and career goals. In order to become an elementary school teacher, students must complete the associate’s degree program, transfer to a four-year degree-granting institution, and complete additional courses and work to earn at least a bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate.
This degree meets the requirements of the Elementary Education Transfer Compact, as well as the MassTransfer Compact, of the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education. Students who graduate with this degree will then be able to enter a Massachusetts state college or university’s elementary education program as a junior.
The program’s course structure addresses some of the topics in the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL).
NOTE: This program may qualify for MassTransfer. Please visit the MassTransfer website to confirm if the program you are interested at Massasoit and a participating state university qualifies.
