Licensed practical nurses (LPN) who plan to study full-time are admitted annually to the second year of the Nurse Education program, where they join the generic full-time students. To receive advanced placement and credit for courses: Nursing I, II, and III, the LPN must have graduated from an approved school of practical nursing, hold a current license to practice practical nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and have successfully completed the required prerequisite first-year courses.

LPN graduates of Southeastern Regional, Blue Hills Technical, and Bristol Plymouth Technical School may be given transfer credit for the course Human Growth and Development. LPNs admitted to the full-time option are required to take a transition course prior to admission to Nursing IV, which is offered during the summer.

Graduates of the program are awarded an Associate in Science in Nurse Education degree and are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination to become licensed as a registered nurse.

Students must be aware that if they have ever been convicted by a court of law, their records will be subject to review by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing upon application to take the NCLEX-RN exam. A Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check will be required for all students before clinical experience.

Area students who have completed their associate degree in nursing now have the opportunity to earn their bachelor of science in nursing from Curry College right at Massasoit’s Brockton campus. Students in the RN-BS program benefit from the instruction of expert, full-time faculty and a competitive tuition rate. Graduates wishing to continue their education and earn a bachelor of science in nursing can also enroll at a number of area four-year colleges and universities.
