Degree & Certificate Programs

Program Details

Private security companies provide armed and unarmed security services and expertise to private and public clients. Employees may provide patrol and guard services, traffic regulation, and fire and theft prevention and detection.

The Private Security – Basic Certificate will provide an entry level certificate in Private Security to help enhance the employability of individuals wishing to enter the field. The program will also provide continuing education for those individuals currently working in the field.

The certificate consists of four courses (12 credits) and could be completed in a single semester or in conjunction with other degree programs at the college.

Program Outcomes

Students who complete the Basic Security Certificate will have:

  • Acquired the necessary academic course work to introduce and prepare them for an entry level security career in the private security industry.

Certificate in Private Security

A minimum of 4 classes and 12 credits is required. At least 6 credits of your certificate must be taken at Massasoit. Note: Each course completed and passed can only fulfill one program requirement. The same course cannot be used to satisfy multiple program requirements.

Introduction to Investigative and Forensic Services
3 Credits in CTIM 180
Computer and Information Security
3 Credits in SECU 101
Introduction to Private Security
3 Credits in one of the following electives: BUSN 110, BUSN 112, CJUS 101, PSYC 101 or SOCI 104
