Whether you’re drawn to being in front of the camera or working your magic behind the scenes, this program delivers a perfect blend of academic coursework, hands-on studio production, and on-air experience in state-of-the-art facilities.

Our students get exclusive access to a fully operational television studio and the renowned Dale Dorman Radio Studio, immersing them in real-world production environments. From broadcast vocal performance to mastering television and radio production techniques, participants develop the skills that make them industry ready.

In addition to acquiring proficiency in computerized nonlinear editing, students will also be well-prepared for seamless transfers to four-year colleges and universities that offer advanced programs in broadcast journalism, radio and television broadcasting, and mass communications.

Program Outcomes

The Associate of Arts Media Arts Degree Program will:

  • Provide faculty who are experienced media professionals dedicated to meeting the needs of community college students by creating a supportive environment necessary for learning.
  • Provide lecture-based and experiential learning, focusing on current industry methods, digital tools, and technology.
  • Offer elective options that allow students to explore Broadcasting, Journalism, Theatre Arts, and related creative fields as they connect with Media Arts.
  • Foster an attitude of adaptability, professionalism, and life-long learning as essential qualities for success in today’s evolving media landscape.

 

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn and apply the vocabulary of media production, performance, and digital storytelling, with competency in both on-air and behind-the-scenes skills.
    Understand, analyze, and explain the influence of media on culture and society in both historical and contemporary contexts.
  • Apply knowledge of media theory and practice across radio, television, film, and digital platforms.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in critical thinking, oral communication, writing, and visual literacy for diverse media formats.
  • Write and produce original content that shows critical engagement with primary and secondary media texts and industry research.
  • Assess the interdisciplinary nature of media production, including performance, editing, sound, design, and digital integration.
  • Work creatively, collaboratively, and cooperatively within production teams in professional and academic settings.

Degree in Media Arts

A minimum of 20 classes and 61 credits is required. At least 16 credits of your program must be taken at Massasoit. Note: Each course completed and passed can only fulfill one program requirement. The same course cannot be used to satisfy multiple program requirements.
