Massasoit Community College Free ESOL Program

The Massasoit Community English as a Second Language (ESOL) Program is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The program addresses the needs of adult learners from other countries to gain English proficiency from Beginner to Advanced levels. Based on individual student needs, our instructors tailor lessons to maximize opportunities for students to attain their life goals.

Classes are held from September to June at both the Massasoit Community College’s Brockton and Canton Campuses. The 34-week long program offers Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of ESOL. Topics include reading, writing, grammar, American Culture & Civics, numeracy, conversation, pronunciation, and computer labs.

Placements are chosen through a lottery system. Interested students must register to be included in the lottery that is held twice a year: August & December.

All classes and books are offered FREE of charge to students with limited English proficiency. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Classes are offered in a hybrid model on the Canton Campus and in-person on the Brockton campus.

ABE Massasoit ESOL Free English Classes

Due to high demand, the Massasoit ESOL program uses a lottery system to select students for available seats in our FREE English classes. The lottery is held twice a year: once in August for the Fall semester, and once in December for the Spring semester.

If you would like to receive more information about Massasoit’s FREE Adult Basic Education ESOL courses, please submit the following ELL Program Information Request Form.

Once we receive your request, you will be contacted to take a placement test. The tests will be given in June and July by appointment only. This DOES NOT mean you have been selected. This is to see what level class would be best for you.

You must take the placement test to be entered into the lottery.

The Lottery will be held on the second week of August. Those who are selected will be contacted via text. If you are not chosen, you will be put on the waiting list. When a seat becomes available, you will be contacted by text or email. Classes for the Fall Semester will begin on Thursday, September 7, 2023. Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. For more information, please contact us at: esolmassasoit@massasoit.mass.edu
