Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities

The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities prides itself on helping students navigate their rights and responsibilities at Massasoit Community College. The Office assists students in navigating behavioral concerns, wellness, and mental health challenges, as well as student grievances. This holistic approach helps students understand their role in the community and develop a plan to succeed moving forward.

Student Code of Conduct

Massasoit Community College expects students to conduct themselves in a manner that is appropriate to a collegiate environment. Massasoit Community College strives to maintain a learning environment that enhances the academic, intellectual, cultural, and social enrichment of its students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. To ensure that no member of the College community is deprived of this collegiate environment, student rights and responsibilities are clearly stated, and behavior and discipline codes have been established. To review these expectations, please review the Student Handbook.

For additional guidance on potential Academic Dishonesty violations, please review the Student Code of Conduct section of the Student Handbook. To report suspected violations of the Student Code of Conduct and other conduct-related concerns, please submit a Student Conduct Referral Form.

Student Wellness Referrals

Massasoit’s CARE Team is here to support students navigating difficult situations that may interfere with their ability to be successful. Common CARE Team referrals include but are not limited to Housing/Food Insecurity, Financial Insecurity, Domestic/Dating Violence, and Mental Health. To submit a CARE Team Referral, please submit a CARE Team Referral Form. For additional Health and Wellness resources, please visit Massasoit’s Health and Wellness webpage.

The CARE Team DOES NOT respond to emergencies. If you feel threatened or are aware that someone is in extreme distress or at risk for harming themselves or others, please IMMEDIATELY CALL Massasoit Police at 508-588-9100 x1296 or dial 9-1-1 from any campus phone. Examples of emergencies include, but are not limited to: suicidal remarks, direct threats, incoherent behavior, any act of violence, and/or a possible weapon.

Student Grievance Procedure

A student may use the Student Grievance Procedure to address alleged abridgment of the student’s rights, as stated in the College’s Student Handbook and/or Policy Guide. The student Grievant or the Responding Party may consult with the Student Grievance Officer at any time. The College’s Student Grievance Officer is Eraj Mashmasarmi, Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities. For additional information regarding Massasoit’s Guidance Procedures, please review the Student Handbook.

The Student Grievance Procedure may not be used to address allegations of discrimination, including sexual harassment. When a student believes that they have been discriminated against due to their race, creed, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information or national origin, the College’s Affirmative Action Grievance Procedure is a mechanism for resolution. For details on Massasoit’s Affirmative Action Grievance Procedures, please visit Massasoit’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion information page.

Maxient

Massasoit Community College utilizes Maxient software to manage various pieces of students’ records. Through Maxient, we are able to use its centralized reporting and record-keeping features to help our community connect important information and prevent students from falling through the cracks. From issues involving discrimination, care and concern referrals, student discipline, and general concerns, Maxient is critical to all things related to a student’s conduct and well-being.

Please be aware that these forms are not to be used during an emergency. If this is an emergency, please call Massasoit Police at 508-588-9100 x1296 or dial 9-1-1. Additionally, the filing of a Maxient report does not constitute filing an official police report. To file an official police report, contact the Massasoit Police Department or go in person on the First Floor of the Student Center.
