This workshop is designed to discuss the intersection of language, race, and identity, as well as their impact on each other. Participants will also be given an opportunity to reflect on their personal and professional experiences with power, privilege, and marginalization.

This workshop is designed to be a follow-up to the first workshop and will focus on checking in with participants. We will discuss how things have been going for them since returning to work as well as follow up on their wellness plans. Participants will also be able to adjust their plans based on their specific needs at that time.

In this interactive workshop, participants will define white privilege and identify the ways in which white privilege shows up at Colleges and Universities.
Using a case study approach, Dr. Kevin McGowan and Dr. Melissa Winchell will guide participants through ways that white privilege results perpetuates harm for people of color. Tools of white privilege–such as good intention–will be discussed and dismantled.
Participants will learn how to be authentic allies to co-workers and students of color and leave the workshop with ideas for how to grow their allyship.

This workshop will explore the different ways that microaggressions — indirect or subtle acts of discrimination — show up in our work environment and learn some tools that might help you address them and minimize their occurrences.

Dismantling Our Racial Biases (Faculty & Staff Only) – Wednesday, November 17, 2021
In this interactive workshop, participants will be invited to identify their implicit biases and develop strategies for dismantling them. We all have biases–racial and otherwise–and guest presenters Dr. Kevin McGowan and Dr. Melissa Winchell will share some of their own, provide opportunities for small group discussion, and identify specific steps we all can take to know and change our biases. Participants will leave the workshop equipped with a specific, individual strategy for taking the next step in their antiracist journey.
