Handling Medical Issues on Campus
Students, faculty, and staff in both Brockton and Canton who experience medical distress or emergencies will contact College Police, who will respond to the call, assess the situation, and determine whether the affected individual should be transported to a local hospital.
College Police is staffed 24-hours a day. In the case of witnessing a medical emergency, College Police should be the FIRST POINT OF CONTACT for all issues, including those involving emotional distress and mental health issues. 911 may be accessed from any classroom phone or 508-427-1296 from any cell phone.
Facilities
In Brockton, Student Center Room SC151 will serve as a designated area for sick students, faculty, and/or staff to wait and rest while awaiting ambulance transport or family pick-up. It will also provide a space for students, faculty, and staff to rest during short-term illness. This treatment and rest area will be separated from the remainder of the room, providing privacy for those individuals utilizing it.
In Canton, Room C136 will serve the same purposes and be set up similarly as SC151 in Brockton to afford privacy when needed. The offices will not be staffed; the College Police station should be the primary site for assessment/care/treatment.
In addition to health emergencies, the rooms will also provide privacy and a space away from the police environment for investigation of physical and/or sexual assault/crisis, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking; and other investigations of sensitive natures requiring assessment and privacy. The rooms will also provide a dedicated space for the College Police to conduct CPR/AED/Narcan/First Aid training for the College community.
